RSS Introduction

What is an RSS Feed?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated information on websites. It can be seen as a website news update which can be embedded in user home pages, used in an RSS feed reader, or saved as a bookmark.

How does this help me?

As new information is published about the state of critical systems like Webcourses and WebCT@UCF, the RSS feed will automatically send you the information. RSS feeds exist for the TOL News and Events and System Status sections of the website.

How do I Use an RSS Feed?

There are many ways to subscribe to RSS feeds; web browser, e-mail or a specialized feed reader. Wikipedia maintains a list of all major feed readers.

Web Browser

Most web browsers offer the ability to view feeds directly by just clicking on the feed link. Once on the feed page, it can be saved as a bookmark for frequent reference.

Email Clients

Most email clients allow the use of RSS feed reader integration either directly or by means of an installed plug-in.

Feed Reader

A feed reader is a program devoted solely to the purpose of reading feeds and usually has specialized uses.
