Quiz Submission Requirements

When submitting a quiz to be uploaded to your online course, you must follow the Quiz Submission Requirements. Following the Quiz Submission Requirements will ensure that your quiz is uploaded to your course quickly and efficiently.

1. Submission

  • The file you submit must be a rich-text (.rtf) or text (.txt) file. Please do not submit a Word document (.doc). This required file type decreases the imported format errors that often occur because of Microsoft Word’s auto-format feature.
  • Send the file as an e-mail attachment to your Instructional Designer.
  • The e-mail subject line should include your Webcourses@UCF course number. (example: AMH3403 – 08Summer_CW59)
  • Copy the Quiz Settings below and paste them into the text of your e-mail. Then fill in the selections for each setting.

2. Quiz Settings

  • Do you wish to create the quiz using a Question Set (randomly select a portion of questions from the question database)? How many questions?
  • Do you wish for the question's answer order to be randomized?
  • Point Value for each question? _____ Total point value for entire quiz?_____

c. Basic Settings:

  • How do you want the questions delivered?
    • All the questions at once
    • One question at a time and questions may be revisited
    • One question at a time but questions CANNOT be revisited
  • Allow students ________ minutes to take the exam.
  • How many times may the student take the quiz? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Unlimited
  • If the student is allowed more than one attempt to take the exam, which score will be used: First, Latest, Highest, Average

d. Availability:

  • When do you want the quiz to open? Provide date and time.
  • When do you want the quiz to close? Provide date and time.

e. Results available to students:

  • What option do you want for the release of student scores?
  • Release the score once the quiz has been submitted.
  • Release the score once the quiz has been submitted and all the paragraph questions have been graded.
  • Do not release the score.
  • Once the student completes the quiz what do you want them to see?
  • Show the student’s score for each question.
  • Show the student’s total score for the quiz.
  • Show the question text for each question (will not see any answers).
  • Show questions and student's answers
  • Show questions, student's answers and evaluation of their answers
  • Show the feedback for each question.
  • Show all the grader comments for the quiz.

g. Special Instructions:

3. Question Formatting

Please follow the formatting instructions below to ensure that you properly create and format your quiz.

Question Title: A title can be added to each question. If a title is not provided for a question, the first 17 characters from the question wording will be used as the question title. Titles must be placed at the beginning of a question and begin with "Title" followed by the actual text for the title. If the title exceeds 17 characters, the remaining characters will be dropped.
Example:

Title: Speed of Light
3) Who determined the exact speed of light?

  • a. Albert Einstein
  • b. Albert Michelson
  • c. Thomas Edison
  • d. Guglielmo Marconi

Question Numbering: Each question must begin with a question number, followed by either a period "." or a parentheses ")".
Example:

  • 3)
  • 3.

Question Text: The question wording must follow the question number. (Note: at least one space should be between the question number and the question wording.)
Example:

  • 3) Who determined the exact speed of light?
  • 3. Who determined the exact speed of light?

Each answer choice (distractor) must begin with a letter followed by a period "." or a parentheses ")".

Example: -or-
3) Who determined the exact speed of light?
  • a) Albert Einstein
  • b) Albert Michelson
  • c) Thomas Edison
  • d) Guglielmo Marconi
3. Who determined the exact speed of light?
  • a. Albert Einstein
  • b. Albert Michelson
  • c. Thomas Edison
  • d. Guglielmo Marconi

Correct Answers: Correct answers should be indicated by placing an asterisk (*) directly in front of the answer choice. Do not put a space between the asterisk and the answer choice.
Example:

  • a) Albert Einstein
  • *b) Albert Michelson
  • c) Thomas Edison
  • d) Guglielmo Marconi

Multiple Response: You must indicate you are creating a multiple response question by entering the Type as MR. To create a multiple response question, follow the same formatting rules described above for multiple choice questions.
Example:

  • Type: MR
  • Title: Discoveries
  • 3. Which of the following individuals are credited with determining the exact speed of light?
  • a. Albert Einstein
  • *b. Albert Michelson
  • c. Thomas Edison
  • *d. Edward Williams Morley

Short Answer Questions: You must indicate that you are creating a short answer question by entering the Type as S. With short answer questions you must provide all possible correct answers. Therefore, there is no asterisk (*) in front of your answer choices.
Example:

  • Type: S
  • Title: One Step Equation
  • 5 . Solve the equation 5w = 30. Write your answer in numeric form.
  • a. 6
  • b. 6.0

Paragraph Questions: You must indicate that you are creating a paragraph question by entering the Type as P. See the example below.
Example:

  • Type: P
  • Title: Define Tessellation
  • 6 . Write the definition of a tessellation.

Matching Questions: You must indicate you are creating a matching question by entering the Type as MT. Matches are indicated by placing an "=" symbol between the two parts of the match. Spaces before or after the "=" symbol are optional. If you plan to list correct answers for other questions at the bottom of the document, simply skip the number for all questions that are of the matching variety.
Example:

  • Type: MT
  • Title: Scientific discoveries
  • 7. Match the correct name to the discovery or theory.
  • a. Michelson-Morely = Speed of light
  • b. Einstein = Theory of Relativity
  • c. Marconi = Radio waves

Feedback: Feedback for individual answer choices can be added by placing the feedback immediately after the answer choice and by beginning the line with the @ symbol. There must be at least one space between the @ symbol and the feedback text.
Example:

  • Title: Speed of Light
  • 3) Who determined the exact speed of light?
  • a. Albert Einstein
  • @ No. Albert Michelson determined the exact speed of light.
  • *b) Albert Michelson
  • @ Yes. Albert Michelson won the Nobel Prize for Physics for determining the exact speed of light.
  • c) Thomas Edison
  • @ No, Thomas Edison did not determine the exact speed of light.
  • d. Guglielmo Marconi
  • @ No. Marconi did not discover the exact speed of light, but he did win the Nobel Prize for Physics for his work with radio waves.

General Feedback can be imported in a similar way, but it must appear immediately after the question wording and before any of the answer choices. The line must also begin with the @ symbol, and there must be at least one space between the @ symbol and the feedback text.
Example:

  • Title: Speed of Light
  • 3) Who determined the exact speed of light?
  • @ Albert Michelson was the first American to win the Nobel Prize in Physics (1907) for his measurements of the speed of light. His experiments laid the groundwork for Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.
  • a. Albert Einstein
  • @ No. Albert Michelson determined the exact speed of light.
  • *b) Albert Michelson
  • @ Yes. Albert Michelson won the Nobel Prize for Physics for determining the exact speed of light.
